S- State Strategies and Resources
Instructor(s) / Trainer(s): Hoff, Shayla C
Select Strategies
I select the computer multimedia model for this assignment, with a self-learning setting and cognitive objective. Students will be taking a pre-test using USA Test Prep, playing the USA Test Prep games, creating a review game, and taking a post-test in USA Test Prep. Due to the nature of USA Test Prep, most of the lesson can meet all types of learner variables (USA Test Prep allows for translation into Spanish and dictation for auditory learners).
Select Resources
Technology and Media. This lesson call for access to USA Test Prep and Quizlet, where students will play review games and take assessments.
- Alignment with standards, outcomes, and objectives. The software provides the necessary tools for my students to meet the learning objectives. It is also aligned to state standards for English 1 CP, and has reading samples that are age appropriate.
- Accurate and current information. The website has text samples that accurately reflect the skill level of learners and the scope of the standards.
- Age-appropriate language. The software applications are written at a level appropriate for 9th-grade students and allows teachers to choose reading passages based on lexile level.
- Interest level and engagement. Students have the ability to play games in the game arcade that include reading questions based on the standards I assign them. They can choose independent games or to play a multiplayer game with a friend, which can help engage students who are more social.
- Technical quality. The software applications are slightly dated, but they still function appropriately on the Chromebooks.
- Ease of use. The applications require initial training, but we have completed that training already.
- Bias free. Any bias in the software is included for educational purposes (i.e. teaching students how to find bias).
- User guide and directions. Students frequently ask the teacher for help using USA Test Prep.
